About Darcy Salomon, M.Ed., Ed.S.
Darcy Crocker Salomon grew up at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Charlottesville, Virginia. Diagnosed with Dyslexia in the first grade, she succeeded in school through targeted intervention, dedicated tutors, hard work and strong family support.
After attending Kent State University and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, Ms. Salomon received a Bachelors of Science in Textile Technology and Fashion Design. She went on to work in the fashion industry for 7 years. During this time, she found herself drawn back to the world of education and volunteered at the STAR after-school program in Harlem. Through this work she realized her passion for working with children, especially in the area of reading intervention.
Ms. Salomon returned to Charlottesville in 1997 to attend the graduate education program at the University of Virginia. After receiving her Masters of Reading she became a Second grade teacher at Johnson Elementary, a Title 1 school in Charlottesville. While working with this at-risk population, she decided to return to UVA where she pursued a degree in educational testing, early intervention, and professional development. After receiving her Education Specialist degree in 2004, she moved to Richmond, Virginia and opened Learning Smarts where she practiced until 2017. That fall, Ms. Salomon relocated her family and practice to her hometown of Charlottesville, VA.
She has taught education courses at the pre-service and graduate level focusing on early childhood development, learning disabilities, curriculum instruction, reading instruction and word development. Recent work experience includes the PEELLS and SEELLS Early Reading First Grants, a partnership between VCU and Richmond Public Schools.
Darcy lives in Ivy, just outside of Charlottesville, VA and practices what she teaches with her five children.
